Elbow & Hand Pain FAQ

What’s the difference between tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow?

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylopathy) affects the outside of the elbow and is aggravated by gripping with the palm down. Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylopathy) affects the inside of the elbow and is worsened by wrist flexion and forearm rotation. Despite the names, both commonly affect people who don’t play either sport.

Can carpal tunnel go away on its own?

Mild cases may improve with activity modification, night splinting, and exercises. However, moderate to severe cases often require professional intervention to address the underlying nerve compression and prevent permanent damage.

Do I need surgery for my elbow or hand condition?

Most elbow and hand conditions respond well to conservative care. Surgery is typically only considered after 3-6 months of appropriate non-surgical treatment, or if there’s significant weakness, muscle wasting, or nerve damage.

How long does treatment take?

Many patients notice improvement within 2-4 weeks of starting treatment. Full resolution typically takes 6-12 weeks depending on the severity and how long you’ve had the condition. Chronic cases may take longer.

Can I keep working while receiving treatment?

In most cases, yes. We’ll work together to modify your activities and ergonomics so you can stay productive while your tissues heal. Complete rest is rarely necessary and can actually slow recovery.

What is the Neubie and how does it help?

The Neubie is a direct current electrical stimulation device that helps re-educate your nervous system. For elbow and hand conditions, it can reduce pain, improve muscle activation, and accelerate healing by targeting the specific neural pathways involved.

When should I see a chiropractor for elbow or hand pain?

Consider scheduling an evaluation if your pain persists more than 2-3 weeks, interferes with daily activities or work, or if you’re experiencing numbness, tingling, or weakness. Early intervention leads to faster recovery.
